((Cross-posted from Tumblr. Please see the OOC notes below before using any of this character’s history prior to his escape from Belsavis. Character information is for post-KotFE timeskip.))
Lord Vyllic, formerly known as Jedi Knight Jorran Kurn, was a Force-trained prisoner released from a Rakata stasis device on Belsavis during the Imperial attack on the Republic prison planet. Due to the characteristic symptoms of Hybernation Sickness, he was unable to give his Imperial rescuers any information about his origins or why he was imprisoned, but his attire, his command of the dark side, and the previous carbonite freezing suggested that he was possibly a fallen Jedi.
After Imperial transport to and from Belsavis was secured, he was transported to Korriban to recover from his imprisonment and relearn how to use the Force. Though his long-term memory was slow to recover, he showed remarkable knowledge in some areas of Sith knowledge and ignorance of others that even Sith acolytes knew. He had been trained at some point before his Belsavis internment as a Sith Assassin, and his ruthless efficiency and hunger to hunt Force-users earned him a place among the Imperial Yavin 4 forces sent to stop the Revanites. After Revan was defeated, he remained with Darth Marr’s forces, eventually fleeing the destruction of Darth Marr’s ship in an escape pod.
He has spent the last five years working as an assassin and chief interrogator for a minor Darth on Dromund Kaas.

Biography
Jorran Kurn was born on Telos 348 years before the Treaty of Coruscant. The child of a geologist in the Agricultural Corps of the Jedi Order and a Republic military officer, he spent most of his early life being cared for by the family’s protocol droid, along with the family’s three older children. Jorran’s two older sisters and his older brother were not discovered to be Force-sensitive early enough to prompt their parents to allow their training, but Jorran’s talent bloomed while he was still a toddler. Due to his father’s failure in training, his parents were reluctant to allow his training. After a year and much convincing by one of his father’s friends within the Jedi Order, Jorran was sent to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
The Jedi youngling studied on Coruscant for many years before being taken as a Padawan by a master who later moved them to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine. Jorran was an avid learner and a quick study. A knack for slicing, persuasion, and using the Force to remain unseen got him into trouble as a padawan, but also led to several missions assisting Outer Rim worlds when he attained the rank of Jedi Knight. One of those missions, assisting the survivors of a Mandalorian attack, led him to question the Jedi Council’s wisdom in remaining aloof from the conflict with the Mandalorians, and he eventually joined Revan’s forces.
The former Jedi Knight was among a portion of Sith forces that trained at the Trayus Academy after Malak’s defeat at the hands of Revan. It was his hunger and his ruthless efficiency in completing his orders that earned him the price on his head. Wanted by the Republic for numerous assassinations and the kidnap and torture of Jedi, as well as assassinations of criminal and unaligned leaders of governments important to Republic or Sith strategy, the price on his head got high enough after a Hutt on Nar Shaddaa was found murdered that even normally-cautious mercenaries were tempted into going after him. He was eventually captured by a Mandalorian mercenary on the planet Tatooine and was frozen in carbonite, only a short time before Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus died. He was returned to Nar Shaddaa, where he was prominently displayed in his frozen state in a Hutt’s palace.
Eventually, sometime during the Great War with the returned Sith Empire, he fell into Republic hands. Unwilling to ignore the threat the Sith assassin posed, the Republic military never disclosed his discovery to the Jedi Order, but instead had him thawed and immediately transferred to a stasis chamber deep within the prison on Belsavis, where other Sith prisoners and dangerous fallen Jedi were being held. The double trauma of hibernation sickness and the Rakata stasis field scarred his mind, leaving his long term memory locked away from him.
Vyllic was eventually freed by an Imperial strike team during the Sith Empire’s assault on Belsavis. The trauma the Sith assassin was subjected to, as well as his long internment, made his control over his own abilities haphazard at best, and he drove one member of his rescue team mad before attacking aliens diverted his attention. No records of his internment survived the assault, and his own memory problems made it impossible for him to tell his Imperial rescuers where he came from or any name other than Vyllic. He was sent to Korriban to recover and relearn some control of the Force and his own abilities. During this time, he began to be plagued by unusually vivid dreams of places and events long since past or destroyed. His healers dismissed them as a symptom of his injuries, and tried to teach him how to shut them out.
Regaining some of his previous power, Lord Vyllic eventually recovered in time to join Darth Marr’s forces on Yavin 4 as they fought the Revanites. Though the holos of Revan triggered a strong sense of deja vu, the Sith assassin did not regain any of his lost memory, though the dreams began to plague him more and his control of his own abilities slipped enough that younger Sith and weakly Force-sensitive personnel found his presence uncomfortable.
After Yavin 4, he remained with Darth Marr’s forces, and he was aboard Darth Marr’s flagship when the Eternal Fleet attacked it. He fled in an escape pod and managed to slowly make his way back to Dromund Kaas, where he found refuge and work in a young Darth’s compound as an assassin and interrogator. Five years later, he holds considerable power among the Darth’s followers, while Sith Intelligence has been subtly trying to investigate his background.
Personality (WIP)
Lord Vyllic is still far from healed from his long internment, and his personality is unpredictable at best. He comes across as far more personable and social via holo or text messages, where he is unable to sense anything of his audience. The former Jedi Knight comes out then, in a sarcastic sense of humor and a distinctly bookish demeanor.
In person, the Sith is far less predictable, since he still has less than perfect control over his own abilities. His hunger prompts him to enjoy terrorizing others and it weakens his control around Force-sensitives, including his own Master. He is described as a rabid Kath hound by the Darth’s other apprentices. His patience varies, and Sith Intelligence has lost at least two low-ranking agents (covered as doctors) to his temper.
Abilities:
Vyllic was among the fallen Jedi trained as a Sith assassin, and although his long-term memory was damaged when he was kept frozen in carbonite and kept in Rakata stasis for so long, he is still able to use a stealth field generator and Force camouflage to mask his presence. He can sense his prey through the Force, and though he doesn’t remember why, it’s instinctual in him to feed and grow subtly stronger around Force sensitive prey. He has since studied Sith sorcery on Korriban and is fairly adept at the conjuring of Force lightning, Force afflictions, and a few other directly offensive abilities.
Drawbacks:
Vyllic doesn’t remember a lot of his previous training, and while many of the major things are instinctual, allowing him to continue his assassination work, control had to be learned. He doesn’t remember why he hungers to attack Force sensitives, all he knows is that eventually something happens to pit him against one. His abilities, unchecked, tend to make some of the more sensitive around him vaguely uncomfortable. Some of the Sith Intelligence operatives sent to interview him have reported a feeling like insects crawling in their stomachs. His patience and even his mental state vary according to the strength of the Force users around him, due to his lack of control, and he is at his calmest when surrounded by the Force blind or by droids. Physically, he’s blind in his right eye and the implant that he wears is an eyepatch style that can be removed easily for repairs, cleaning, or for medical treatments. Consequently, it doesn’t have the same range of sight as a standard implant.
Usual Equipment:
Vyllic is usually dressed in a set of black robes with a black cowl and skull-faced mask when he’s working. The mask hides his missing eye and tends to distort his voice, just a bit. His usual weapon is a double-bladed lightsaber in a Jedi style with an orange color crystal.
When he’s off duty or just around his Master’s compound, he tends to wear worn red and white Jedi-style robes that show his face and eye implant.
OOC Notes:
- Most of his history prior to his rescue from Belsavis by the Empire is completely unknown to him and comes to him in fits and spurts in sometimes-distorted dreams. So far, nothing has helped him to remember anything more of his history or his control of the Force.
- It is highly unlikely records of his identity or his crimes survived on Belsavis, but if one were very lucky or knew where to look within Jedi ruins….
- Though he doesn’t remember, he lost his eye during the Mandalorian Wars. The eyepatch-style cybernetic implant he wears is one he’s been wearing since then. Someone who knows technology might recognize its age.
- His original lightsaber was lost on Tatooine when he was captured. He’s been having urges to go to the desert planet that he has so far managed to ignore or put off.
- Edit: Fixed some out of place history to be more consistent with canon.
